How to reach this abbey nestled in the scrubland?

The Abbey of Saint Roman is undoubtedly one of the gems to discover during a stay in Gard and Provence.
Located a few kilometers from the city of Art & History of Beaucaire, it is true that it is an unusual place which is well hidden in nature, and not necessarily obvious to find.
By following our directions, you will not miss it!

Where is it located?

The Abbey is lost at the heart of the Aiguille massif, the highest point of Terre d'Argence.
The parking of the Abbey can be reached by the following routes. 

Arriving from Beaucaire or Tarascon: take the Route de Nîmes (departmental D999), at the last roundabout leaving Beaucaire, the access to the Abbey is indicated.
Arriving from Avignon, Remoulins, Pont du Gard or Aramon, along the Rhône, the abbey will be indicated on your right, then you will take a path to the parking lot. Please note, this access is only allowed for cars.
Arriving from Nîmes and Montpellier, access is indicated at the roundabout right before Beaucaire.

Directional signs guide you to a free open parking, secured during the opening hours of the abbey.
The abbey is also an opportunity for family walks and nature hikes in the wonderful Aiguille massif overlooking the Rhône valley.

And once parked? 

You parked your car at the Abbey parking lot. You can then reach a small marked path that starts at the end of the parking lot. This trail will take you to the Abbey across the pine forest, scrubland and maquis.
Please note that there is no car access at the foot of the abbey. The abbey can only be accessed after a short walk. It is an easy path that climbs gently but surely (with low steps) for about 15 minutes before reaching your destination... The abbey has to be earned! The advantage, during the summer season, is that the trail is mostly well shaded and that the abbey offers some fresh air.

To climb the short distance between the parking lot and the abbey, prepare a water bottle and wear closed shoes

The access is not suitable for people with reduced mobility or wheelchairs. However, this easy path is suitable for the greatest number and for children as well. Be aware that on mistral days, the wind is strong at the top of the Abbey!

Opening hours of the Abbey

From October 25 to November 15, 2020: Tuesday to Sunday from 2pm to 5:30pm.

In July and August: every day 10 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 7 pm.
Other periods: contact us.
No toilets in the Abbey.
Your dog is welcome, but kept on a leash.
