The last troglodytic abbey visible in Europe !
Nestled in greenery, this abbey is located in the middle of the garrigue of the Saint-Roman massif.
This abbey was built by hermits who wanted to live far away from the world. They dug it out of the rock, a real feat! It was then monks who expanded the natural cavities to make them a monastery.
A lot of research was launched in the 1960s to understand how monks lived in such an unusual place.
Today the visit allows you to discover chapels, cells and rock tombs.
From the terrace, a superb 360 degree panorama opens onto the Rhône and Provence.
Wild and enchanting, the abbey is a place to recharge your batteries
Take the time to discover it and to be inspired by the serenity of the place. After your visit, you can walk in the magnificent Aguille massif, looking for wild goats.
The visit is done with a color brochure recounting the history of the Abbey.
It takes 10 to 15 minutes to get up from the car park. At lunchtime and in the evening, last entry 1/2 hour before closing.
In bad weather the abbey may be closed without notice.
Visiting the Abbey is not recommended for people with reduced mobility.
Your dog is welcome but kept on a leash. No bathroom.
A guided tour for individuals at no extra charge and without reservation is organized on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday morning at 10:30am in July and August.
