The Romanesque chapel of the Saint Vincent de Broussan’s priory in Bellegarde is a Historic Monument, located on the way to Santiago de Compostela.
Located at the exit of Bellegarde, on the road to Saint-Gilles, the Domaine de Broussan is located on the southern slope of Costières. The entire estate is composed of a rectangular farmhouse extended by two perpendicular wings. The inner courtyard is bounded to the south by the chapel, of which one can only see the southern wall and the apse.
Dedicated to Saint Vincent, this chapel built between the 11th and 12th centuries was placed on one of the paths of Santiago de Compostela leading to Saint-Gilles.
The magnificent polychrome portal attracts immediately the eye especially by its two small columns supporting a semicircular arch. Inside, the single nave is composed of three spans and ends with the choir, formed by a semicircular apse.
Every summer, in August, a concert, organized as part of the festival “Musique et Vieilles Pierres”, , is given in the chapel. A guided tour preceding the concert allows heritage lovers to learn more about the history of the site.
