Between Nîmes and Arles is the Domaine Terre des Chardons. On nine hectares of southern grape varieties, the vines have been worked there since 1999 by Jérôme Chardon.
Vegetable winemakers
It is a wine estate of about ten hectares, surrounded by its vineyards, vegetable farming and olive trees. It is located in Bellegarde, an exceptional region home to the AOP Costières de Nîmes and the AOP Clairette de Bellegarde, a dry white wine that is only produced in the village of Bellegarde.
The field practices biodynamic agriculture.
They work their wines based on the lunar calendar in order to make each action beneficial and to limit or even avoid the use of additives (glue, filtration, etc.) that can to some extent alter the expression of the wines.
The harvest, entirely harvested by hand, is taken to the cellar in small boxes in order to preserve the original qualities of the grapes and to perpetuate the efforts made in the vineyard.
Their goal is to work as close as possible to the harvest in order to vinify local wines, especially pleasure wines.
They make a very strict plot selection in order to vinify small cuvees separately and this then allows them to have a wider choice when blending.
