Exit idea in Beaucaire: electric bike ride from Beaucaire to the Pont du Gard by the green lane. Testimonial, tested experience, family activity, electric bike rental.
A nice family bike ride
This weekend, with my cousins, we programmed a little bike ride... But not any bikes, we will experiment with the electric bike! Well, we didn't choose the route by chance either. We will try the green way connecting Beaucaire to the... Pont du Gard !
So I found a great address for bike renters: Bike Provence Découverte. David and Franck have prepared bicycles with small onions, there are even saddlebags to put bottles of water, laptops, and sunscreen! On demand, they can even deliver the bikes wherever we want, and pick them up later, what a luxury! The walk starts from the quiet Port de Beaucaire, then along the bullring, just below the fortress and quickly you can reach the green lane bike path.
In the middle of nature
The journey is 42 kilometers round trip. Very honestly, with electric assistance, it is within reach of everyone, even children. And then the ride is easy: it's flat almost all the time! It is only at the beginning and end of the route that we share the road with the cars. All the rest of the time, we are on a well-furnished track, surrounded by valleys, Camargue horses, the decor is rather nice !
Youhou!
We pass the Meynes-Montfrin station, which is no longer in operation. During the journey, we can take breaks, picnic tables mark the route here and there. We pass through tunnels, the light automatically switches on as we pass, everyone chuckles and cries out. After Montfrin, the track crosses wilder corners, my cousins and I do not resist the pleasure of running in the fields of poppies like 'small house in the meadow'.
Photo souvenir, obviously !
We touch the goal, adrenaline rise!
We're coming to Remoulins. At the entrance to the village, the greenway ends and we must take the road. But after a few hundred meters, a bike path resumes on a pretty shaded driveway. Finally, we cross the road for a sandy track. We're almost there.
Full of the mirettes!
And then here he is. He was waiting but the spectace is on the rendezvous! The Pont du Gard, almost 2000 years old, marvel of antiquity, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site... It's just THE most visited ancient monument in France, excuse little!
The arrival by bike at this place makes the moment even more unique. In addition, you can cross the Pont du Gard by bike (it's free)! We then hang our bikes (lock planned, awesome!) and visit the museum that traces the history of the construction of the bridge. We booked our tickets online in advance, which allowed us to avoid waiting in line.
It's lunch time, we settle for a picnic on the banks of the Gardon, where you can swim. A few canoes pass by us and make us cuckoo. It's very peaceful...
The way back
Time runs out and we'll have to think about going home.
Return to Beaucaire by the same path as on the go. Small passage through the pretty center of Beaucaire before separating us from our magical bikes.
This is a great experience that I strongly advise you to test with your family! Bike Provence Découverte offers electric bikes for children, but honestly, we could also do it without electric assistance. It takes 1h30 to go, the same thing on the return (by electric bike and in quiet mode... Probably about 2 hours in the 'classic' bike).
Nice ride to all !
