Discover the Camargue Race with Beaucaire Terre d'Argence Tourism. Live a unique experience through this sport that has become a traditional art of the region.
You don't know anything about Camargue race ? I tested this completely new experience for you !
Camargue race, tell me more! The principle is quite simple: young men dressed in white try to catch attributes attached to the horns and frontal of a bull with the help of a hook.
Alicia, expert in the field, meets us an hour before the start of the race to lead us behind the scenes... We meet manadiers, raseteurs, bulls, and we can even enter the arena, where visitors never have access !
Alicia was born and raised here, Camargue runs in her blood! True Camargue enthusiast, she welcomes us with a big smile and a southern accent !
“We're going to see the raseteurs ! ”
Alicia takes us behind the scenes of the arenas and more precisely in the changing rooms. Raseteurs are the young men who challenge bulls in the arena. They need to be quick and agile to avoid falls and strikes with the horn.
A small detour by the infirmary is included in the tour! Don't worry... the race won't start until a doctor is on the spot.
Now let’s head to the track, where Alicia shows us how the raseteurs escape the bulls. Three steps to jump over the fence. It looks physical !
Before taking a seat in the stands, Alicia accompanies us to the toril, where the bulls are waiting to enter the arena. Manadiers (breeders of Camargue bulls) arrive with their animals. The race will begin soon !
We settle in the stands and the first bull arrives in the arena! The race starts, the raseteurs follow each other on the track and try to catch one of the attributes, the cockade !
The face to face between man and animal is spectacular, we hold our breath, we applaud the skills of the raseteurs and the strength of the animal !
Like the principle of audiodescription, Alicia whispers in our ear what is happening.
We ask Alicia a lot of questions, but why are they in white? What's a turner ? What exactly are attributes ? She pulls out of her bag, shows us and explains with passion all the codes of this local and unknown sport !
The intermission is already there, we are completely immersed in the atmosphere of the “bouvine”. We have a drink while waiting for the next 3 bulls, Alicia tells us that if we wish we can leave or stay and see the rest of the race. Well, we stay !
And tomorrow, we're going to visit a manade !
