Arrival in the village

The village of Fourques owes its existence to the construction, in the second century AD. This bridge of a bridge that made it possible to link the Via Domitia to the five cantons of Beaucaire. Great idea! This famous Suspension Bridge is the first thing you can see when you arrive, and it's a wonder !

The Dolce Vita!

Ahh, what a pleasure to walk in this pretty village with colorful alleys !
It's so quiet, it smells the good scent of Provence, we meet the Grannies who enjoy the sun and cheerfully chatting in front of their door... That is what the South is all about, knowing how to take your time and savour this Dolce Vita !

Heritage of the village

Walking through the center of the village, you will come across an old stone sarcophagus. Take the time to observe it, it dates from the time of the Romans !
It was around 1860, during the Second Empire, during the excavation of the Beaucaire irrigation canal in Fourques that we discovered this two-seater sarcophagus, in every point similar to those of the Alyscamps of Arles. A real curiosity !
A little further away you will see the water castle of the village. It was one of the first to be built in Gard, it must be said that the proximity of the Rhone inspires, since it is its waters that will serve to feed the Commune.

Enjoy the moment...

You can finish your walk by passing the magnificent Château de Fourques (private domain) then alongside the Rhône and enjoy the softness of the sun on the river.
