Discover Jonquières-Saint-Vincent
Surrounded by vineyards and orchards, Jonquières is a pretty Provencal village where it feels good to live. Walking through the streets of the village, we discover two magnificent windmills. One of them is historical and dates back to the 17th century, the other is a copy rebuilt as an exact replica. These heritage elements have been restored according to the rules by Compagnons du Tour de France (French organization of craftsmen and artisans dating from the Middle Ages). This is where the various traditional festivals, that mark the life of the village throughout the year, take place.
Saint Vincent's Day
In January, every year, the village celebrates the winemakers of Terre d'Argence. A big party is organized and villagers of all generations, parade accompanied by carts and marching bands in the country footpaths. One can taste the latest cuvées, sing, dance, enthrone the new personalities who join the order of winemakers. A nice traditional party not to be missed if you are nearby !
The Tavie Fountain
On the outskirts of Jonquières you will discover a bucolic place: the Tavie Fountain. This is the ideal spot for those who want to be all alone in the world. You will find a pretty fountain under the trees to picnic, a wooden table, a place to take the time and recharge your batteries. It is also the starting point for a walk or bike ride through the small trails in nature. The fountain is well hidden, ask your way to the locals you will come across !
St. Laurent's Chapel
Leaving the village, you will come across a beautiful Romanesque chapel of the 12th century classified as a Historic Monument.
Inside, two Milestones dating back to the Roman Emperor Claude support the Choir’s chancel arch.
In the spring, the chapel is surrounded by a wonderful field of poppies, one can enjoy a small escape just like in the 'Little House on the Prairie' and run in the flowers...
