Ahhh... Picholine! Even his name sings with the accent of the South!

With us, the star of all the good tables is olive! And the star among the stars... It's picholine of course! It has been one of the tasting treasures of our territory for centuries. This singular olive draws its roots in Collias and is now the pride of all the Gard. It must be said that it has a particularly fruity taste, with slightly peppery notes. A remarkable palate olive whose flavor is matched only the bright side of its green, but this olive must blacken two months after harvest before going to the mill press. This exceptional fruit can be eaten in confectionery, palate olive as an aperitif or in olive oil. It gives birth to an oil both bitter and spicy, with great nutritional virtues recognized well beyond the Gard.

Recognition of a culture and know-how

After more than 18 months of work, investigations and exchanges, the association of Olivettes du Pays de Nîmes, member of the Sites Remarkable du Goût, has obtained recognition of a culture and know-how: since October 2020, olives in the country of Nîmes are now registered in the Intangible Cultural Heritage of France!

  
And where do we taste it, that famous picholine?

At the Coopérative de Beaucaire oil mill, pardi! You can taste different oils offered by local producers and make your selection.You will also find excellent olive oils in the Farmers' Terroir, the Comptoir Méditerranean , and at the wine producers who also produceolive on their estate, such as the Château Mourgues du Grès, but also the Mas des Tourelles or the Castle Saint Louis La Pardrix.
