Visit the Museum of Basketry and Crafts, in the heart of Vallabrègues. Located on the banks of the Rhône, in Gard, Vallabrègues is one of the last Provencal villages of basket-makers.
Nature offers us a timeless materials, which is wicker. Put into the expert hands of creative craftsmen, these long stems that grow on the banks of the Rhône are transformed into containers that are both practical, original and beautiful.
And that is nothing new. This is evidenced by the Museum of Basketry, in Vallabrègues, with its collection of small and large objects often unusual, but always in wicker.
It is no coincidence, because the municipality has long lived from basketry, and still bears traces of it.
Created in 1994 by enthusiasts, the museum has since been working to find and exhibit baskets and suitcases, and to keep alive the memory of a craftsmanship that is back in fashion.
Open all year long for groups by reservation at 04 66 59 26 57
Next door to the museum is the workshop of the village's last basket-maker, waiting to be discovered...
