Time travel to the Vieux Mas

Tested and approved: the visit of the Old Mas, pedagogical farm as in 1900 for young and old. On the program: old tools and old crafts, shows, animals and games.

This weekend, my family is expending from 0 to 3 children at once! My nephews, Emma, Mathis and Lilou are coming. I confess that I panicked a little at first and then I did a little research and found the activity that we needed!

Let’s manage the kids and snacks, damn I forgot the water, well we will figure it out on site!

Let’s head to the Vieux Mas, for a trip back in time!

Upon arrival, the stage is set, the girls see hens and lambs through a hedge and pull me by the sleeve towards the reception so that I move faster.

At the reception, Lilou opens wide eyes and says out loud: “Uh, it's weird how the lady is dressed! Her shoes are made of wood!!!”

Yes, Lilou, here we are 1900!

The “inhabitants” of the Vieux Mas farm are dressed as at the beginning of the 20th century and immerse us in the daily life of a farm of the time.

No time to lose, map in hand, the children head to the various animations organized throughout the day. We start with the forge, we feel the heat of fire on our faces, the blacksmith hammers a horseshoe, the children are captivated by this real show man. Children are marveled and laugh!

The blacksmith invites us to go and see the flight of the carrier pigeons, the nephews run to the next activity.

The flight of pigeons is something! The little ones lower their heads every time the pigeons fly over their heads, the kids learn all about the modes of communication of the time.

Emma finds the pigeons cute, but that the phone is still more convenient.

From there direction the 4-horned sheep! Mathis tells me that it's not possible, that it doesn't exist... And yet! This is the beginning of a big debate, it's not real, it's glued horns... it bickers but not for long, because it's time to go feed the farmyard.

Children participate with big fistfuls, they throw themselves into it wholeheartedly. Hens, dwarf goats and even a huge pig, everyone gets their share! Children pet the animals.

It is a beautiful discovery of all farm animals and a lesson to treat them with respect..

I already hear 'I want one'!

But thank God, the show is beginning! Sitting in the shade of plane trees, this little moment of calm suits me well! Children are captivated by the history of the blacksmith who a made magic swords and of the curse.

We end the tour with the classroom version 1900, Emma finds that it does not change too much from her school today, but is very happy not to wear a blouse, not to write with a feather and an inkwell and to not have to wear a donkey cap! I am close to the heart attack when Mathis asks me if my school “it was like that???”

It's already time for us to go home, but we promise to come back because it was “so much fun”!
